Me? – questions the way one sees oneself in the world and how one interacts with others in society. Sharing in the differing cultural experiences of life.
You – is about identity and interaction but we are taking a position of persuading others to join in this interaction. To see how a work of Art, Poetry, Music, Fashion or Dance can enhance the exploration of the everyday experience of living.
Us! – is about celebration and unity. That we are by nature already in continuous interaction with each other either through physical relationships, Darwinian anthropologic genealogy (our human origins) and through global communication and the arts.
In the context of TRUE COLOUR we are celebrating the truth and interaction of cultural exchanges and individual freedoms.(John Dove and Molly White)

    John Dove and Molly White

An artist John Dove from Norwich (1943-) and a textile designer Molly White (1944-) formed an artistic duo in London, 1964. They are known for influencing Vivienne Westwood and Malcolm McLaren who are considered to be the exponents of the PUNK MOVEMENT. The pair produced fully printed T-shirts and jackets under the label “WONDER WORKSHOP” in the 60’s. Their products were sold at boutiques such as “Paradise Garage” in London where “Worlds End” stands today and “Ians” in New York. The graphic T-shirt had earned recognition as a fashion item through their productions and became popular in London and abroad. In 1976 they opened a shop “KITSCH-22” and launched their own cult label “MODZART”. Various artists and musicians that symbolize the 70’s loved their T-shirts; Iggy Pop, Marc Bolan, Mick Jagger, Lou Reed, Sid Vicious and Paul McCartney enjoyed wearing the T-shirts and jackets for their concerts and in their private time. Dove and White’s works have been included in many museum shows including The Victoria and Albert Museum in the U.K, TextielMuseum in Tilburg, Netherlands and many other museums and galleries around the world. After Paul Stolper Gallery in London became their main gallery in 2009, Dove and White have continued to present a body of works, which comprised not only their drawings and collage, but also screen-prints on hand-made rag paper made from recycled T-shirts with original artworks with which they used to print T-shirts in the 60’s and 70’s. Many of contemporary artists in London including Damien Hirst are collectors of their artworks.
In 2017, KLEINSTEIN CO.,LTD., curated their first solo exhibition in Japan, “SENSIBILITY AND WONDER (DIESEL ART GALLERY)”

"Yes, I consider my work pornography. Pornography means to stimulate people’s sexual feelings, and I'm always very aware of that. My motive is lower than art."

    Tom of Finland

Tom of Finland (Finnish 1920 – 1991), is the creator of some of the most iconic and readily recognizable imagery of post-war gay culture and is regarded as one of the 20th century’s most influential artists. He produced thousands of images beginning in the 1940s, robbing straight homophobic culture of its most virile and masculine archetypes (bikers, hoodlums, lumberjacks, cops, cowboys, and sailors) and recasting them through deft skill and imagination – unapologetic, self-aware, and boastfully proud enthusiasts of gay sex.
In 1984, Tom of Finland and his friend Durk Dehner established Tom of Finland Foundation with the purpose to preserve Tom of Finland’s vast catalogue of work and offer a safe haven for all erotic art. The Foundation works actively in educating the public in promoting healthier, more tolerant attitude about sexuality.

This T-shirt represents three components of an artistic life:

1. Is the blank slate/we all have some knowledge we’re born with but positive experience we can become wise yet we all are born with a blank slate.

2. The more we fill the slate with diverse people and perspectives the better

And 3. Now go and create the greatest movie ever made with your Life and the world will Progress because of you.(Apl.de.ap& Patrick Cunningham)

SELECTOR

  • KLEINSTEIN

It’s hard not to see how political correctness becomes tainted and overshadowed by capitalism every time you see the word “diversity.’ However, in today’s world, even if you present a message that is morally correct, people who are not directly involved will not pay attention. If you are not careful, it can even come under fire and create more divides in communication. What we need now to captures people’s attention is something powerful and creative. For this series, I invited people that have been sending a message that our world is constructed of diverse individuals. Apl.de.Ap has African-American roots but also emigrated from the Philippines to the United States. Tom of Finland was not only a pioneer in gay erotic art but also is a role model for how minorities can freely live as who they are. John Dove and Molly White started to print messages on T-shirts in 1967 and started a new movement of street fashion, and are still cutting-edge artists today. I hope to celebrate freedom and individuality together with these artists.”
